Vision

Our vision is to create a central creative hub in the North, where designers and makers – both seasoned and novice – can create, experiment, and build. We aim to build on the Motor House’s cultural heritage, to make it a landmark site for promoting the central ideals of the Arts & Crafts Movement, and those it influenced.

By exploring the movement’s critique of modern industrial life and its call to restore beauty, honesty, and humanity in art, architecture, and design, we aim to support creative practices that champion handmade craftsmanship and honest engagement with material.

We aim to conserve the Motor House’s important buildings and archives for present and future generations, both as a resource for research and as an incubator for artistic and design practice. By doing so, we will be contributing to the rich creative history of North, and emboldening those who call it home to create and contribute their ideas to the world.
